You will choose a major and a minor pathway on application, so if you choose to major in one of the sciences pathways, you must minor in one of the arts pathways or vice versa. The Umbracle is a huge, open-access garden covering more than 17,000 m2 where you can stroll around and take in the typical Mediterranean plants and contemporary sculptures. Terraza Mya opens its doors at night during the summer months, where you can have a drink under the moonlight. The public car park of the City of Arts and Sciences is located just below the Umbracle. If you are a music-lover then the Palau de les Arts is the place for you at the City of Arts and Sciences. From October to November, its programme includes operas, concerts, zarzuela and ballet.

In each year of your degree you will take a number of individual modules, normally valued at 15 or 30 credits, adding up to a total of 120 credits for the year. The balance of compulsory and optional modules varies from programme to programme and year to year. A 30-credit module is considered equivalent to 15 credits in the European Credit Transfer System . Science majors typically receive more contact hours because of lab requirements. Arts majors typically have fewer contact hours but are required to undertake more reading outside of the class. On all pathways you would be expected to spend 40 hours a week in full-time study, which is made up of a mixture of contact hours and self-directed study. UCL’s Arts and Sciences programmes allow you to create a programme incorporating arts, social sciences and science specialisms.
